"This is my one small contribution to the history of our times: To tell the history of our times in the language of our times." - The Rev. James B. Simpson.

Dick Cheney says Obama will be a one term president

In the year that President Obama has been in office we have learned a lot, haven't we? We've learned he is not going to govern from the center, we've learned he doesn't believe in American exceptionalism, and he is going to travel the world apologizing for this great nation.

— Liz Cheney, of the conservative advocacy group Keep America Safe, stated Thursday (2/18/2010) at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington. She proclaimed that “Barack Obama is a one term president.”

Sen. Evan Bayh quits

There is too much partisanship and not enough progress -- too much narrow ideology and not enough practical problem-solving. Even at a time of enormous challenge, the peoples' business is not being done.

— Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., in announcing he will not seek re-election this year. He made the announcement Feb. 15, 2010 in a decision that could hand Republicans a key Senate seat.

Dick Cheney comments on the trials of terrorists

These are tough questions, no doubt about it. You want my opinion, my view of what ought to happen, I think we have to treat it as a -- as a war. This is a strategic threat to the United States. I think that's why we were successful for seven-and-a-half years in avoiding a further major attack against the United States.

— Former Vice President Dick Cheney criticizes President Obama for wanting to try terrorists in civilian court, rather than before military commissions. Sunday 2/14/10 “This Week” on ABC

House Minority Leader John Boehner says healthcare summit should be private

A productive bipartisan discussion should begin with a clean sheet of paper. We now know that instead of starting the 'bipartisan' health care 'summit' on Feb. 25 with a clean sheet of paper, the president and his party intend to arrive with a new bill written behind closed doors exclusively by Democrats -- a backroom deal that will transform one-sixth of our nation's economy and affect every family and small business in America. They will then engage a largely handpicked audience in a televised 'dialogue' according to a script they have largely pre-determined…. It doesn't sound much like bipartisanship to me.

— House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, slammed President Obama's proposed bipartisan healthcare summit, arguing it will be more akin to political theater than true bipartisanship. 2/13/2010

Obama travels to the Middle East

"So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, those who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. And this cycle of suspicion and discord must end."

"America is not-- and never will be-- at war with Islam. We will, however, relentlessly confront violence extremists who pose a grave threat to our security-- because we reject the same thing that people of all faiths reject: the killing of innocent men, women and children."

— Obama, commenting on relations between the United States and the Muslim world in Cairo, during a Middle East tour. June 4, 2009.
